Halyard: the story of turning a dress into a sweater

Well, this is embarrassing, I have been so busy with studying and finalizing my Master Thesis, that I haven't posted a single thing for two months! (i.e. you can blame them, not me xD)
Even though a new exam period is shortly coming up, I hope I will be able to post a bit more frequently. If only, I have been making (some) stuff and when I don't write about them soon after, I forget!

So, today I will write about a sweater I made in December (!).

Random bits {baby booties, a cat cave, wooden shawl pins}

I have been doing quite random things lately... I have officially entered exam period, but for it I have been studying for two months already now. I am in the fever of completing what is left to pass for graduation and although I may not be sure about the outcomes (of this exam period) I know for sure that I am getting tired of studying. xD

Plus, at the same time I spent a lot of time adding mom's stuff on my Etsy shop (check out all this awesome stuff!) (and a few of my own.. he he) and life has been.. hectic. 
Nevertheless, I still manage to find some time to knit. 

Stash and needle organising

So, I have been on an organising fever lately and I have mostly been tidying up my yarn and needle stash. I have been rewinding most of my skeins into symmetrical spirals or yarn, diving them in see-through plastic bags either by project or by yarn type.

New classes and their materials

Since 23rd of February a new cycle of classes have begun in Mouselin Patiserrie and I am very excited about them! One reason is because this time I get to provide all class materials, and have also the chance to create handouts for each lesson. Since the classes now last for 3 hours instead of 1!

Can yarn have a mascot?

Now that the road trip story is over, I can finally focus on the more knitterly part of the trip!

New equipment

For the upcoming trip to Iceland I needed a pair of hiking boots (since we will be hiking on rough terrain) so I was searching into various options and in the end got a pair in Slovakia!

Frilly yarn Experiment #2

The second experiment is done - I finished it during my recent travelling, but it didn't last long before I actually ripped it. But I did manage to take some pictures to show you how it turned out.

Moar Yarn!

I have not been posting much lately - and there are several reasons for this: I have been very busy with work, some school projects, travelling and some other stuff I will soon talk about. And also exams are coming up in one week. How cool. xD

But for now I will try to post something, however small, and right now I can show you my new indulges in yarn. :)

The 8 square socks

During my stay in Leuven, I managed to spot a very awesome local yarn store and steal some time to go and take a look at their products. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to thoroughly examine all my options, and definitely no time to buy something (I was carrying my luggage and 3 extra sleeping bags at the time).

But since I have friends living there, I thought I could ask them to buy some for me later. That's what I eventually did, and as thanks, I decided to make a 'thank you gift' for the friend that helped me.

Frilly yarn experiment #1

As I have mentioned before, recently I started experimenting with frilly yarn and the first try produced some unique pieces - necklaces!

Yarn hunting

The other day I was scouting for yarn in various LYSs (didn't visit my favorite one because it's far away and I didn't have much time) for new shop additions. I found what I was looking for, but bought in total waaay too much yarn. Some of which I like so much, I want to keep for myself.

The deadline for the Templeton square competition is over, and I finally can write about a project that took me 2 months and a lot of ripping and re-knitting to complete.

 These past few days I am engulfed in a working frenzy - hyperactive all the time without end! The good thing is, that a lot of work gets done, and boy, did my room need tidying up and cleaning!

Let's talk about yarn

After acquiring some delicious yarn recently, I suddenly got the urge to document my stash on Ravelry. Something I never thought I would do!

It turns out that documenting your stash is very useful, especially for ravelry projects!

Finnish socks

Just a few days before I departed for Italy 3 weeks ago, I managed to finish my second pair of socks. And I was also clever enough to take them with me! Wisest decision ever!

Because you see, in north Italy it's very cold, and warm wool socks are exactly the thing you should have on your feet.

A vest

Recently, while browsing at Ravelry, I stumbled upon a design called Americano. I really wanted to make one, but although I searched for the pattern, I couldn't get a copy since it is not distributed digitally.

So I did what I always do - make my own version.

The unexpected package

It's Monday morning and I wake up in a bad mood. You see, the previous night, while working on my laptop, the power cord that charges my computer got completely cut. Which meant an empty battery and no access to my work whatsoever. I was dreading the fact that now I had to spend time fixing it, instead of working on my projects.

But when I came down the stairs to have breakfast I encountered an envelope and a big red box on my dining seat. There was a big surprise that totally changed my mood for the rest of the day.

Yarn addiction

I think I am becoming a yarn addict. Apart from knitting all the time, I have developed a serious lust towards woolie things of various types.

How annoying is that you get to finish a pullover in time for chilly Autumn, but the weather decides to prolong summer for two more months?
