I am very pleased to announce the release of a new pattern, the Kusafiri Shawlette.
It has spent the previous month in testing, and with the very helpful work and input of MadTatter, riverwatcher, mum2five, it is now ready! ^^
The shawlette you see now in the pictures is actually the second prototype! The first one, is the summer shawl I talked about last month. I wanted to make some changes and also test the pattern I had written, so I knitted a second one.
I omitted the short section of decorative yarn overs and added short rows for shaping. I prefer the second prototype, in my eyes it looks more elegant.
It is a fairly easy and simple pattern to follow, especially if one has experience in intarsia. For those who don't, I have put up a basic intarsia tutorial here. I would also create a page for yarn management, but I think it is not necessary, since Helene Magnusson has created one that covers several methods excellently.
The hardest part of the publishing process was finding the name. I firstly thought of 'Summer Breeze', since it is a quick summer project. But that name was taken. Multiple times. Then I stuck. I had no idea what to do. I kept looking at the picture, and for some reason, the colors, the styling, the light, were speaking out to me: "Adventure!", "Travel!" and ok I admit.. "Africa". Then 'safari' came to mind. But that is also a very common name. I googled it and through the wondrous pages of Wikipedia, I came up with Kusafiri, which in Swahili means 'to travel'. It is almost like Kusafari, which is safari, ie the journey.
I think I got lucky. Next time I can only wonder what will happen until I find a name. I am generally bad at finding names.. Maybe with practice the whole thing will get easier!

This is gorgeous! I think this may have to be my next project cast on. Congrats on this accomplishment, it's so exciting!
