Dreams

Αυτή την φορά πρόκειται για παραπάνω από ένα ποιήματα, κυρίως λόγω του κοινού θέματός τους. Είναι μερικά από τα αγαπημένα μου. :)

In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed--
But a waking dreams of life and light
    Hath left me broken-hearted.

Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
    Turned back upon the past?

That holy dream -- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
    A lonely spirit guiding.

What though that light, thro' strom and night,
    So trembled from afar-
What could there be more purely bright
    In Truths day-star?

1827. Edgar Allan Poe

 A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less _gone_?
_All_ that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand --
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep -- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
_One_ from the pitiless wave?
Is _all_ that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?.

1849. Edgar Allan Poe

Dreams

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Langston Hughes
